What many people overlook is the ability to assign it as your right click option. It hasn’t really changed much other than the typical DAW GUI overhauls. You may or may not be aware of the fade tool in Logic. This essentially removes the burden of holding down cmd while you cut through audio. When the cursor is in the “above” section on a piece of audio, the cursor will behave normally. Having this box checked means that when your cursor hovers over the bottom section of audio the marquee tool will appear.

You can speed up your editing workflow even more. If you been loving it so far, you’re really in for a surprise. The marquee tool can be invaluable in the modern home recording rig. This create four nodes for you to easy grab and automate. Need to automate a section but don’t want to spend all that time selecting the points? Enter automation mode and cmd click, and drag over the desired area. What if you don’t want it deleted but muted instead? Select it with the marquee tool and hit m on your keyboard instead. Normally one might reach for the scissors tool from the left click drop down menu, cut their regions, then switch back to the pointer just to delete the unwanted sections and continue on down the road. Without knowledge of this tool or being a key command ninja, editing becomes this cumbersome and very time-consuming ordeal. The Marquee tool in the latest versions of Logic Pro X is a very powerful tool for editing. In order to use some of these features, advanced settings under user preferences must be selected.
